Syed Hijaz Mehdi Naqvi is a poet and has been teaching Urdu Poetics & Poetry, Ilm e Urooz/Prosody at Hast o Neest for more than five years; He is the co-founder of Ghalib o Mir - https://miroghalib.com/ - which aims to instill 'a sense of purpose and meaning' through poetry; He has published his first collection of poetry titled Zard Rangat (the Lahore inaugural ceremony was at Hast o Neest - https://youtu.be/H_rOgyi5_Vg), ; His book on poetics/prosody/ilm e Urooz titled Urdu Shairi ki Kitab was published in 2023 by Hast o Neest. He belongs to a family of scholars, and studied in Iran and Pakistan.

He has secured Gold Medal in Ash-Shahadatul-Aalamiyyah Fil Uloom Al-Arabiyyah wal-Islamiyyah and 1st Position in BS (Hons) Arabic from Minhaj University Lahore.
He is also Adeeb Arabi and Alim Arabi from Darul-Uloom Muhammadiah Ghosiah, Bhera. His fields of interest include studies on Molana Rumi, Allama Iqbal, Said Nursi, Naat and Ilahiyat (Islamic Philosophy).

طالما اشكو غرامى يا نور الوجود
Talama ashku gharami ya Nur al-wujood
How long I have ached with this love for you, O Light of existence.
وانادى يا تهامى يا معدن الجود
Wa unadi ya Tihami ya ma’dinal jood
Calling out, O Tihami(resident of Medinah/Makkah), O spring O generous-source of all kindness
منيتى اقصى مرامى احظى بالشهود
Munyati aqsa marami ahdha bish-shuhood
My aspiration, my deepest desire, is to reach the station of witnessing, and be in your presence
وارى باب السلام يا زاكى الجدود
Wa ara babas-salaami ya Zaki l-judood
And to see the Gate of Peace before me, O Purest of Ancestors
يا طراز الكون انى عاشق مستهام
Ya Tirazal kawni inni ‘aashiq mustahaam
O you, you are the embroidery that ornaments the entire universe,
مغرم والمدح فنى يا بدر التمام
Mughramun wal-madhu fanni ya Badr at-tamaam
Lovesick! The only art I can offer is my praise, O Full Moon of Perfection!
اصرف الأعراض عنى اضناني الغرام
Isrifil aa raada anni adnanil ghraam
Remove the barrier from between us, I am completely spent by this longing
فيك قد أحسنت ظني يا سامي العهود
Fika qad ahsantu thanni ya Sam il-‘uhood
I am putting my full trust in you, Beloved, you who is loyal to all his promises, that you will respond with everything I wish for
يا سراج الكون يا عالى جناب
Ya Siraj al-Owliaa-i ya A’al il-janaab
O Lantern of the Friends of God, O Highest of Highnesses
يا إمام التقيا أنا قلبى ذاب
Ya Imaamal atqiyaa-i, inna qalbi zaab
O Imam of those who live fully aware of their Lord, truly my heart has melted
وعليك الله صلى ربى ذو الجلال
Wa alayk Allahu salla, Rabbi Thul jalaal
Peace be upon you from God, my Lord, Owner of Honor and Splendor!
يكفى يا نور الاهلة ان هجرى طال
Yakfi ya nur al-ahillah inna hajri taal
I can’t bear it anymore, O Light of all the crescent moons: my separation from you has gone on far too long
سيدى العمر ولى جد بالوصل جد
Sayyidi, al ‘umra walla Jud bil-wasli, jud
My Master, I’ve become old
Out of your goodness, grant me the union I seek

Taimoor Khan Mumtaz | is senior architect at Kamil Khan Mumtaz Architects in Lahore. He trained as an architect at the NCA in Lahore, he gained an MA in South Asian Design and Architecture (MAPRASADA) from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK.
