Hast-o-Neest Institute of Traditional Studies and Arts' broad aim is engagement with tradition in today's context through access to Masters of Tradition, a modest library and intensive academic programs; in a space that encourages and supports the search for knowledge.
The teaching methodology is structured on theory and practice, on a formal and informal learning process including field trips, study circles, sittings and lectures in an atmosphere that facilitates open discussion and dialogue. The formal process includes modular study program, seminars and workshops primarily in and at the intersection of Art, Architecture, Philosophy, Metaphysics and Language.
There are minimal requirement for registration, the foremost is interest and a thirst to learn. Open events as lectures and sittings are walk in events that do not require formal registration.
AHMED MIMAR CENTRE OF ARCHITECTURE:
Study and research programs with a focus on the philosophy, basic principles and language of classical Islamic architecture and its contemporary application.
IBN MUQLA CENTRE OF ARTS:
Study programs with a focus on the philosophy, principles and practice of classical calligraphy, and the related arts of the book such as manuscript and Quranic illumination - tezhib. Other arts include classical music, vocal and instruments as well as a special program on Quranic Recitation.
IBN ARABI CENTRE OF PHILOSOPHY & METAPHYSICS:
Study and research programs on traditional Islamic philosophy, modern philosophy, Islamic spirituality, Shariah, Madha’hib and Tasawwuf (Sufism).
ABU RAYHAN BIRUNI CENTRE OF LANGUAGES:
Study programs in Quranic Arabic - Fusha and Classical Farsi language.
02 TRADITIONAL LEARNING
Hast-o-Neest’s objective is to create an environment of learning where students are able to benefit from a knowledge that is rooted in a 'tradition' and where there is access to such knowledge and its Masters – as they are traditionally known: ‘Ustad’ or ‘Shaykh’. It aims to provide an introduction to and a greater understanding of 'Traditional Studies', i.e. such as sufi doctrine and method, traditional Islamic philosophy, metaphysics and cosmology, and 'Arts' such as calligraphy, architecture, illumination (miniatures).
The primary objective is to engage with, research and explore traditional knowledge, practice and experience in today’s wider context in an atmosphere encouraging reflection and discussion. The end product is a set of principles, and techniques that manifest the principle of jamal, and an etiquette (adab) of interaction and approach that is derived from a sacred concept of knowledge and practice.
